No organization has been left unharmed by the pandemic. Over the past two years, not only have we experienced a significant increase in the number of people needing civil legal help due to Covid-19, but also from those who suffered loss of jobs, homes, and personal property in the aftermath of Winter Storm Uri. Those seeking help face eviction, barriers to employment, and loss of healthcare coverage. Others have been confronted with consumer and financial problems or are affected by family violence or intimate partner abuse.

Every day, we must tell four out of five applicants that we cannot give them what they need: a lawyer to represent them in a civil legal matter. Although we accept the most urgent cases and provide advice to those seeking help, more clients would benefit if we had enough resources to represent them.

While we can help with any type of civil legal matter, our practice focuses on addressing family violence, preserving homes, serving veterans, helping individuals and families maintain economic stability, and addressing the needs of adults and children with disabilities.

Legal Aid Statistics:
In Texas, there is one private attorney for every 450 Texans above legal aid eligibility and one
Legal Aid lawyer for every 9,800 low-income Texans
Approximately 5 million Texans qualify for Legal Aid
A family of four earning less than $53,000 per year is eligible to apply
A single person is eligible to apply with an income of up to $25,760
A full-time worker in Texas barely earns $15,000 per year if paid current minimum wage

For 70 years, Legal Aid has provided desperately needed help to low-income Texans; more than 1.1 million client families who could not afford to pay an attorney have benefitted from our services. Won’t you help us continue to make a difference in our community by becoming an event sponsor? Your support will help ensure the success of this event and allow us to continue to provide services to those in need.
