The Equal Access to Justice Campaign provides funding for the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, a joint project of Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas and the Dallas Bar Association. Annually, this project provides free civil legal aid to approximately 2,000 to 2,500 individuals and families who cannot afford to pay an attorney to represent them in cases ranging from eviction and foreclosure, to access to benefits, to domestic violence and abuse of family members from the youngest infants to the elderly, to other civil legal issues.
Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, Inc. is funded in part by the Legal Services Corporation (“LSC”). As a condition of the funding it receives from LSC, it is restricted in certain activities in all of its legal work—including work supported by other funding sources. Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas Inc. may not expend any funds for any activity prohibited by the Legal Services Corporation Act, 42 U.S.C. 2996 et seq. or by Public Law 104-134. Public Law 104-234 §504(d) requires that notice of these restrictions be given to all funders and contributors to programs funded by LSC.
